Zomato has launched 300 EV bikes under this experimental program, and as of March 2025, it had over 37,000 active EV-based food delivery partners.
To promote greener last-mile delivery, Zomato has launched a new electric vehicle rental bike program for its delivery partners in Delhi. As part of this initiative, Zomato has introduced 300 EV bikes, allowing delivery agents to rent EVs instead of standard petrol-powered bikes.
The project is part of Zomato’s larger environmental commitment. The food delivery company intends to switch to 100% electric vehicle deliveries by 2030 and achieve net-zero emissions across its delivery network by 2033.
According to the company, almost 37,000 of its active delivery partners were already using electric vehicles in March 2025. Their efforts are projected to have reduced over 4,900 tonnes of carbon emissions in the previous fiscal year, equivalent to the environmental benefit of planting almost 2.2 lakh trees.
Speaking about the launch, Anjalli Ravi Kumar, Chief Sustainability Officer at Eternal, stated, “Providing delivery partners with sustainable mobility options is vital to our goal. These rental EVs are intended for distribution purposes, and we believe they will help our partners grow while also contributing to a cleaner future.
The new rental bikes will be available throughout the Delhi-NCR region during the initial rollout. Zomato intends to assess the response and eventually expand the service to more cities based on demand and input from its delivery team.
For many riders, switching to EVs could entail more than just reducing emissions. Saroj Raout, a Zomato delivery partner for two years, said, “I’ve always wanted to move to an EV because it’s more cost-effective in the long term. With these rentals, it is finally achievable. It allows me to save money on petrol while also benefiting the environment.
The plan is also in line with Delhi’s bigger goal to become India’s EV capital. Zomato expects that by making EVs accessible through rentals, it will expedite the switch to sustainable delivery while relieving the financial load on its partners.
