The Bengaluru-based firm enters the mass commuter segment with SUEM and a flexible battery-as-a-service model.
Zeno, an electric mobility startup, has introduced its first motorcycle, the Emara, at a competitive introductory price of ₹64,000 (ex-showroom). The Emara, aimed at the 100- 150cc commuter bike niche, launches Zeno’s new Sport Utility Electric Motorcycle (SUEM) category. Designed to cater to both urban and semi-urban riders who require performance and practicality, Zeno’s Emara was founded by former executives from Tesla, Ather, Ola Electric, and Apple. Comes with a top speed of 95 kmph and a real-world range of 100 km, it is driven by an 8 kW electric motor and a 4 kWh battery. In comparison to chain-driven rivals, the bike utilizes a belt-drive system for better power delivery and lower maintenance.
Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS): Flexible Charging Plans
The bike also has four riding modes, 190 mm ground clearance, and can carry up to 250 kg of payload. Riders can access up to 150 litres of onboard storage with optional accessories. The Emara is a sport utility motorcycle that can withstand a full day of work. and flexible enough to charge whenever and wherever our customers need. Zeno’s CEO, Michael Spencer, stated.
Zeno Emara is available in two versions: one with full battery ownership and one with Zeno’s Battery-as-a-Service (BaaS) model. The BaaS model is intended for those who want flexibility over owning the battery outright. With this strategy, users can sign up for monthly energy plans based on their daily usage. The company offers three options: a Prepaid Basic plan at ₹1,500 per month that covers up to 48 kWh (about 40 km of daily riding), a Prepaid Advanced plan at ₹2,500 per month for 120 kWh (approximately 100 km per day), and a Postpaid plan at ₹52 per kWh, where consumers pay based on actual consumption. Zeno’s official mobile app allows users to manage all BaaS subscriptions and identify local battery swap stations in real time.
Emara users have multiple charging options. BaaS customers can easily replace depleted batteries at Zeno’s battery stations. All Emara customers, regardless of model, can also choose quick charging, which takes around 1.5 hours using public Type 6 chargers, or charging at home in about six hours using a standard outlet. However, the battery swapping service is only available to BaaS programme customers.
Zeno has confirmed compatibility with Type 6 fast chargers used at select public charging stations. However, the battery switching service is only available to BaaS programme customers.
Built for everyday utility and practicality
The Zeno Emara Electric Motorcycle is designed to handle everyday tasks, including commutes, market runs, and work deliveries. It has up to 150 litres of lockable onboard storage with accessories, including 5 litres in the front, another 5 litres behind the seat, and a flexible rear mounting plate that can hold up to 100 litres of additional items. Utility-focused features knee guards and crash guards, make the Emara perfect for urban and semi-urban riders who require both protection and practicality.
Variants, Pricing, and Offers
Zeno offers the Emara in two ownership models: Full Ownership and BaaS (Battery-as-a-Service). The Full Ownership option, which includes the battery, costs ₹1,19,000. The first 5,000 people can pre-order at a reduced price of ₹1,00,000. The BaaS variant, which lacks a battery and relies on subscription-based energy usage, is less expensive. The price is ₹79,000, but early buyers can pre-book for ₹64,000.
