Xiaomi intends to launch the new SU7 Ultra EV, which is said to accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in less than two seconds.
Xiaomi will launch its second electric car (EV), the SU7 Ultra, at the Xiaomi 15 event in China on October 29th. Following the release of the ordinary SU7 model, the Ultra version features superior performance and cutting-edge technology. Pre-orders for the SU7 Ultra are currently open in China, and it intends to impress with its incredible speed and advanced engineering.
The Xiaomi SU7 Ultra is positioned as a high-end electric vehicle, competing with heavyweights such as the Tesla Model S Plaid.
Aims for the premium segment
While Xiaomi hasn’t revealed the exact price, industry experts believe it will cost over CNY 800,000 (around Rs 95 lakh). This price puts it much more than the normal SU7 model, which starts at CNY 215,900 (about Rs 25 lakh).
The SU7 Ultra’s production version is expected to retain the majority of the specifications revealed in its prototype a few months ago. While the prototype had a carbon fibre body, the final version will use more cost-effective materials to bring the price down.
Top-notch power and drivetrain
Xiaomi has outfitted the SU7 Ultra with a strong triple HyperEngine motor system. This contains two V8s and one V6s motor, which are diligently spaced across the front and rear wheels for maximum performance. The combined motors generate an incredible 1,548 horsepower and 635 Nm of torque.
According to Xiaomi, the EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 1.97 seconds, making it one of the world’s quickest EVs. It can accelerate to 200 km/h in 5.96 seconds and 300 km/h in 15.07 seconds, with a top speed of 350 km/h. To maintain stability at high speeds, the vehicle produces an incredible downforce of up to 2,145kg. This emphasis on high-speed performance reflects Xiaomi’s desire to dominate the luxury EV market. The SU7 Ultra is significantly dependent on CATL’s Qilin II battery pack.
The CTB (Cell-to-Body) technology improves weight distribution and balance in this 150-kWh battery. With a 20% charge, it has a maximum power of 1,330 kW and an output of 800 kW. The SU7 Ultra charges fully in 12 minutes thanks to its 5.2C charging multiplier.
Xiaomi’s strategic decision to limit sales beyond China
The standard SU7 was shown in India, but Xiaomi never brought it to market, and the same may be true for the SU7 Ultra. Xiaomi looks to be focusing on China for the time being, with no confirmed plans to expand its EV offerings to India.
In addition to the SU7 Ultra, Xiaomi will release the Xiaomi 15 and 15 Pro smartphones. Only the standard Xiaomi 15 will be released in India. As Xiaomi grows its presence in the EV market, all eyes will be on the SU7 Ultra to see if it can live up to its lofty claims and compete with the established electric vehicle world.
