Wings EV Robin, a two-seater electric microcar, will launch in 2025 with three variants, aiming to revolutionize Indian personal commuting.
Wings EV is an emerging startup that has its operational hub in Indore and it is all set to bring an unprecedented change in the automobile market in India with the ‘electric microcar’ which is named Robin. Designed for two passengers and intended primarily for urban use, this car combines the maneuverability of a motorbike with non-polluting personal transportation. The Bengaluru start-up, launched by a father-son team facing three foes of pollution, congestion, and the efficient use of roads will launch Robin in April 2025.
Future Plans and Production
After having started with Bengaluru, Wings EV aims at launching Robin in Chennai and either Hyderabad or Pune by the end of 2025 and then progressively across the country. The company is also contemplating having a production division in the southern part of India in case the market demands for products and services are high in the region.
Variants and Pricing
Robin will be available in three variants:
- A basic non-AC model with a 65 km range, priced at ₹2 lakh (ex-showroom).
- A mid variant with a fan and 90 km range, priced at ₹2.5 lakh.
- A premium variant with a 90 km range, AC, and patented audio alert systems for enhanced safety, priced at ₹3 lakh.
Robin’s top model has passed tests successfully and has shown that it is capable of making a 12-degree climb that is far more than the required 7 degrees while the flyovers in India are in most cases in the 3-4 degree range.
Industry Impact
As highlighted by Prakash Dandekar, CTO and co-founder of Wings EV, India is currently producing more than 18 million two-wheelers per year. He estimates that about 50% of two-wheeler buyers could potentially migrate into two-seater microcar products like Robin within the next 15 to 20 years. Another unique feature of Robin is the drive-by-wire powertrain, similar to the fly-by-wire control systems in the latest airplanes, proving that this electric microcar is filled to the brim with advanced technology.
