Toyota unveiled its new Urban Cruiser EV at the Auto Expo 2025. This is Toyota’s version of the Maruti e Vitara, and while the brand still refers to it as a concept, it has already been shown in production-spec form worldwide. Following the debut of the e Vitara in March, Toyota plans to offer the Urban Cruiser BEV in India in the second half of 2025.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV: Exterior and Interior
The Urban Cruiser EV 2025 is very similar to the e Vitara, however, it has distinct soft parts and an entirely different look than its Maruti counterpart. The Urban Cruiser EV’s look is more muted and tidy. It gets slimmer headlamps with a chrome band linking the two pieces, as well as a very clean bumper with two vertical air vents on the edges. However, at the side and rear, the Urban Cruiser BEV’s connection to the e Vitara is clear, with few alterations.
The SUV displayed at the Auto Expo had tinted windows, so we didn’t get to see the interior, but photographs of the international-spec car show that it’s remarkably similar to the Maruti e Vitara. Except for the redesigned logo, it retains the same two-spoke steering wheel, 10.25-inch touchscreen infotainment, and 10.1-inch digital instrument cluster.
Toyota Urban Cruiser EV Battery, Range, and Powertrain
The Urban Cruiser BEV has two battery options: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. The smaller battery has a front-axle-mounted 143hp motor, while the larger battery has a 173hp motor; torque is the same at 193Nm. Official range estimates have yet to be released, but the larger battery pack is expected to provide more than 500 kilometres.
The Urban Cruiser EV, which will go on sale in the second half of 2025, will join the thriving new market of midsize electric SUVs that include the Hyundai Creta Electric, the Mahindra BE 6, and the Tata Harrier Electric.
