Toyota & Suzuki are co-developing a compact EV, and it is said to be launched in 2025.
Toyota is collaborating with Suzuki to develop a new compact electric vehicle (EV) that is set to hit the global market in 2025, according to Best Car Web. This crossover codenamed Beyond Zero (” BZ), will be a compact variant of the Toyota bZ4X, which is currently available in the global markets.
Key Specifications
- Platform: Toyota’s bZ will be built on the brand’s e-TNGA platform, which provides a solid basis for performance and efficiency. Toyota is also working on a new SUV that will be built on the same platform as the bZ and will be positioned right below the Fortuner.
- Range: The bZ is expected to have a range of more than 300 kilometres on a full charge, making it perfect for urban travel.
- Power Output: With a front-wheel drive (FWD) motor producing approximately 118bhp and 294Nm, this EV appears to be a fantastic choice for city driving.
- Dimensions: The overall length is estimated to be 3700mm, followed by 1700mm of width, 1530mm of height, and a wheelbase of 2450mm.
Shared Vision
Toyota and Suzuki’s collaboration intends to leverage their respective strengths to build compact vehicles. The two companies had previously collaborated on vehicle rebadging and technology sharing, resulting in successful models in areas such as India and Europe.
Toyota intends to improve its EV lineup, and the bZ is part of that. Following a battery EV strategy meeting in December 2021, the company prioritized the development of electric solutions. The BZ, Toyota’s most affordable EV to date, is expected to attract a broader range of consumers, particularly in locations where electric transportation is becoming more popular.
Launch Details, Rivals
While the exact specs of the upcoming bZ are yet to be released, it is expected to be a significant addition to Toyota’s EV lineup. This segment’s direct competitors will be the Tata Punch EV and the incoming Hyundai Inster. The 2025 release date will coincide with the introduction of the production version of the Suzuki eVX, which, while larger, will also target the expanding EV market.
