With the anticipated reduction in import charges to 15-20% in India the Tesla Model 3’s expected on-road price in India would remain roughly around Rs 35-40 lakh.
Although Tesla is expected to reach India this year, global capital markets firm CLSA has indicated that its electric vehicles will cost at least Rs 35-40 lakh in India, despite a drop in import duties of less than 20%. The Model 3 is Tesla’s most affordable EV in the US right now, retailing for around $35,000 (around Rs 30.4 lakh) at the factory.
With import charges projected to be reduced to 15-20% in India, along with other expenses such as road tax and insurance, the tesla Model 3’s on-road price in India is estimated to remain about $40,000, or Rs 35-40 lakh, according to CLSA.
“In the United States, Tesla’s most affordable Model 3 costs around USD35,000. With tariffs reduced to 15-20% in India, coupled with road tax, insurance, and other fees, the on-road pricing would be around USD40,000, or close to Rs 3.5-4 million,” CLSA noted, according to news agency ANI.
The Tesla car price is 20-50% higher than domestic EV vehicles like as the Mahindra XEV 9e, Hyundai e-Creta, and Maruti Suzuki e-Vitara. CLSA said Tesla’s arrival into India is unlikely to significantly upset the Indian EV industry.
According to Gurmeet Chadha, managing partner and chief investment officer of Complete Circle Wealth, “Among the top-10 selling cars in India, only two are above Rs 20 lakh — Hyundai’s Creta and Mahindra’s Scorpio.”
When Is Tesla Coming To India?
According to sources, Tesla is set to launch retail operations in India in April. The US-based corporation has chosen New Delhi (Aerocity) and Mumbai (Bandra Kurla Complex) as locations for two showrooms.
Tesla would initially import automobiles from its German plant for sale in India, and if it succeeds with imported vehicles, it may establish a manufacturing business in India. Andhra Pradesh is attempting to entice Tesla to locate a facility in the state’s southern region.
Meanwhile, Tesla has advertised multiple job opportunities in India, primarily in Mumbai Suburban. Service advisors, parts advisors, service technicians, sales and customer service representatives, store managers, business analysts, and customer support specialists are among the positions available.
These job posts, which come just days after Tesla CEO Elon Musk met with Prime Minister Narendra Modi during the latter’s recent visit to the United States, have been interpreted as a hint of Tesla’s entry into the Indian EV market.
