Tata Motors partners with Delta Electronics and Thunderplus to expand India’s EV charging infrastructure, boosting electric commercial vehicle adoption.
Indian car giant Tata Motors has signed a Memorandum of Understanding with Delta Electronics India and Thunderplus Solutions Pvt Limited to improve the provision of electric vehicle charging stations in India. This partnership is expected to increase the rate of utilization of electric cars particularly in business circles through increasing the number of charging points along major transportation corridors.
Roles and Responsibilities
The roles of each partner firm are detailed under the MoU signed between Tata Motors, Delta Electronics, and Thunderplus Solutions. Tata Motors will study the potential areas to set up charging stations and suggest suitable dealers for their establishment. Charging hardware will be provided by Delta Electronics, using the necessary know-how for cost-efficient innovations. Thunderplus Solutions will then oversee the installation and operation of the charging stations to fit well, and run as expected.
Driving EV Adoption
Speaking about it, Vinay Pathak, the Vice-President and Business Head for Small Commercial Vehicles (SCV) and Passenger Utility (PU) at Tata Motors, said that this step would help customers to focus on switching to the use of electric commercial vehicles. Pathak said, “It is feasible to open new charging facilities in areas of high traffic as this will enhance the attractiveness of the electric commercial automobiles among the targeted clients thereby enhancing the vehicle utilization and thereby the profitability of the venture apart from promoting a cleaner and greener environment. ”
Strengthening EV Charging Network
This arrangement is expected to greatly enhance the charging network required to underpin Tata Motors’ Ace EV, an SCV intended for last-mile delivery. The Ace EV model developed with Tata EVOGEN architecture includes enhanced features such as a battery management system, Fleet Edge technology, and superior build to support high performance. The EV has a certified range of 154 km, making it ideal for different commercial uses.
The Ace EV is still to be launched in the broad market, yet, Tata Motors already has its contracts with big buyers such as Amazon, BigBasket, and Flipkart. Tata Motors has 150 plus electric vehicle service centers in India and has the right capability to cater to the increasing demand for electric commercial vehicles.
