Leapmotor Electric Vehicle will introduce two models: the T03 hatchback and the C10 midsize SUV.
Stellantis has officially announced the entry of Leapmotor into India, confirming what reports stated in February 2024. The Chinese EV startup will become Stellantis’ fourth brand in India, joining Citroen, Jeep, and Maserati.
Although the final launch date has not yet been confirmed, the brand is expected to start its Indian journey with the assembly of completely knocked down kits. Leapmotor will enter the Indian market under the name Leapmotor International, a Stellantis- led joint venture with a 51:49 partnership.
T03 Hatchback and C10 SUV
The product lineup details have not yet been confirmed by Stellantis; however, reports suggest that the company will kick off its EV journey by introducing two models: the T30 hatchback and the C10 midsize SUV.
The T03, a compact electric hatchback, is planned to compete with vehicles like the Tata Tiago EV. It has a 70 kW (95 HP) electric motor, a WLTP range of up to 266 km, and a battery capacity of 37.3 kWh. Charging is also fast, with DC fast charging enabling a charge from 30% to 80% in 36 minutes.
The larger C10 SUV will compete in the midsize electric SUV sector against cars such as the Hyundai Creta EV, MG Windsor, and the upcoming Maruti e-Vitara. Stellantis intends to introduce Leapmotor vehicles to India first as completely knocked down (CKD) kits. These will most likely be assembled in Stellantis’ Ranjangaon factory. Depending on market response and demand, the company may consider additional localisation.
Stellantis plans to expand the reach and service support for Leapmotor vehicles through its existing dealer network. The launch of a new brand is also expected to increase traffic to their showrooms. By 2027, Stellantis intends to bring up to six Leapmotor electric cars to India. Leapmotor also had an exceptional performance in 2024, delivering approximately 300,000 vehicles globally and doubling its sales from the previous year.
What does the official statement say?
We are excited to announce Leapmotor’s launch in India, which reinforces our commitment to the market. We have created a strong presence in India with Jeep and Citroen, recognising its strategic importance and tremendous potential,” says Shailesh Hazela, CEO and Managing Director of Stellantis India, in an announcement. The company is also redefining electric mobility globally, emphasising customer satisfaction, quality, and innovation. We are thrilled to provide luxury EVs to Indian consumers, combining cutting-edge technology, comfort, and sustainability.”
Leapmotor now joins the growing list of global electric vehicle brands entering India. VinFast, a Vietnamese EV firm, plans to introduce two electric SUVs by late 2025. Meanwhile, Tesla’s entry into India is uncertain due to the ongoing negotiations with the government over import tariffs.
