The upcoming September 2025 represents Skoda India’s initial launch date for its very first electric vehicle (EV) to be made available for Indian customers.
Skoda Auto India plans to release its initial electric SUV model to the Indian market in September 2025. The Czech automaker moves forward with a fresh plan for electric cars in India. Skoda intended to introduce the Enyaq iV next year but adjusted the launch schedule to match India’s updated EV regulations.
EV contenders
During his recent interview, Petr Janeba the brand director of Skoda India established September 2025 as the release date for their upcoming electric SUV model. However, the specific model remains undecided. The company evaluates three electric vehicles including the Skoda Elroq along with the Enyaq and the Enyaq Coupe that use the MEB platform of Volkswagen Group.
The EV policy from India’s government will determine the company’s final decision and this clarification is expected by March 2025. The government plans to give manufacturing advantages to automobile producers who create EVs in their present facilities under their policy framework.
Models Under Consideration
Skoda Elroq: This electric SUV showcases Skoda’s “Modern Solid” design language. The electric vehicle features 4.49 meters of length and its battery choices extend from 52kWh to 59kWh and 77kWh. This model has a 52kWh battery that delivers a WLTP-certified driving distance of 370km while using its 170bhp rear-centred motor as power output. Versions of the 59kWh and 77kWh battery configurations extend the respective range to 385km and 560km.1 One of the Elroq performance levels can reach 180kmph with 6.6 seconds for its 0 to 100kmph acceleration. The Elroq entered the Indian market by presenting itself at the Bharat Mobility Global Expo 2025.
Skoda Enyaq/Enyaq Coupe: In the worldwide markets, the SUVs named Skoda Enyaq/Enyaq Coupe underwent essential changes as part of mid-life updates. According to the specifications the Enyaq SUV runs on a 77kWh battery which allows it to travel up to 562km between charges. A recent update on the Enyaq Coupe brings an extended operating range of 597km to the model.
The lower variants of these electric vehicles both power their systems using a 59kWh battery which grants 431km and 439km of range to their users. The Enyaq iV served initially as the designated EV launch for Skoda in the Indian market according to plans. Testing took place on Indian roads before the vehicle became a display for the Bharat Mobility Show.
As an upcoming model, the Enyaq iV 80x would incorporate dual motors, a 77kWh battery system, and possibly reach a maximum power output of 261bhp2. The vehicle implements 125-kilowatt DC fast charging capabilities with a 513km range according to WLTP specifications.
Policy Impact
Under their March 2024 EV policy announcement, the Indian government allows a reduced 15% customs duty for imported EVs that cost over USD 35,000. The production requirement demands investments exceeding ₹4,150 crore from manufacturers for them to access this policy benefit. The policy allows import duties to stay at varying rates of 70-100% if manufacturers do not invest the specified funds. Skoda is currently evaluating the policy in detail ahead of making its final choice. The opening electro-vehicle from the company will be imported as a complete model. The company has partnered with Volkswagen to build an EV platform for the Indian market that will operate locally.
Other Models
The Indian market will receive the second-generation Kodiaq from Skoda India during the second quarter of 2025. The local production of the premium SUV through completely knocked-down (CKD) kits will start its assembly operations by February 2025. The new-generation Kodiaq will have a price point that exceeds the amount charged for the previous L&K model variant.
The Skoda Octavia facelift and Superb along with the Kushaq facelift and Slavia facelift will be among the upcoming Skoda cars released in India during 2025-2026. Skoda implements these initiatives to advance its market position in the Indian market segment. The company intends to introduce premium models of ICE and electric vehicles to its lineup within the upcoming period.
