First-ever electric vehicle in India
Skoda Auto has announced the launch date for its first-ever electric vehicle in India. The Czech automaker has announced plans to introduce the Enyaq EV in India in 2025. The electric car, which was supposed to be released in the country earlier this year, has been pushed back to next year due to ongoing modifications the EV will undergo before arriving in India. Skoda unveiled the Enyaq EV for the first time in India in January of this year at the Bharat Mobility Show.

During an interview with ANI, Petr Janeba, Brand Director at Skoda Auto India, revealed the Enyaq EV’s launch timeline. He stated that the delay in the EV’s launch was due to continued work on an improved version. He stated that the automaker is planning a big facelift before launching it in India. Skoda recently announced a ₹15,000 crore investment for its Chakan factory in Pune, Maharashtra. The factory will be renovated to produce electric and hybrid vehicles for the Indian market in addition to traditional ICE versions.
Skoda Auto’s MEB platform
The Enyaq electric SUV is based on Skoda Auto’s MEB platform, which was designed from the bottom up specifically for electric vehicles. The Audi Q4 e-tron and Volkswagen ID.4 are both built on the same platform. Skoda is set to offer the Enyaq 80 in India.
Skoda Enyaq Specifications
It has a single electric motor that generates 282 horsepower and 310 Nm of peak torque. Skoda claims the EV can accelerate from 0 to 100 kilometres per hour in 6.7 seconds. The battery pack is an 82-kWh unit with a range of more than 500 kilometres on a single charge. It also takes only 28 minutes to charge from 10% to 80% using a fast charger.
The Skoda Enyaq will have a number of sophisticated features. These include the Advanced Driver Assistance System (ADAS), a 360-degree camera, digital screens for the instrument dashboard and infotainment system, and leatherette seating in the cabin.
Major Revamp
Janeba further on the Enyaq EV launch and Skoda’s EV vision for India, saying, “We have one of the best-selling EVs in Europe, the European Enyaq.” The automobile was tested and prepped for India. This year, we’ve stopped bringing the automobile. The Skoda Enyaq will get a major redesign in March to reflect the new design language. We can select one of the three EV cars going to India, or all three.” Skoda now has two manufacturing facilities in India, in Chhatrapati Sambhaji Nagar and Pune.
The next EVs from the Czech brand will be built in the Pune site. Janeba stated, “We will produce EVs at the same factory in Pune, Chakan. We have currently boosted production capacity in Pune to 250,000 units per year as a result of Kylaq, and we will raise further as needed for current cars due to export, Indian demand, or upcoming cars such as EVs.
