Skoda Kylaq is expected to take some visual influences from the all-electric Elroq, which is set to make its debut in India next year.
Skoda revealed its latest compact electric SUV, the Elroq, to the public last week. The Elroq, like the Enyaq, is slated to arrive in India sometime in the future, and it is believed to have many similarities with the upcoming Skoda Kylaq. The Czech carmaker’s subcompact SUV, the Kylaq, will make its global debut in India next month. Skoda teased the Kylaq earlier this year, revealing only a few details about the crossover
Skoda Kylaq: Elroq-inspired design
However, it was evident that the Kylaq’s design would differ from those found in Kushaq, Slavia, or even Kodiaq. With the Elroq making its global debut, we may see parallels between the electric SUV and the Kylaq. For starters, the Elroq gets a whole new front fascia with a split lighting configuration up front that includes a sleek tri-LED DRL and bi-LED projector headlamps below. The Kylaq is expected to follow a similar layout.
Another alteration spotted in the Elroq is a redesigned “Skoda” lettering on the hood and tailgate, which is scheduled to appear on Indian roads alongside the Kylaq for the first time. The Kylaq will retain the iconic all-black Skoda Butterfly grille in front, which the Elroq does not have. Instead, the latter is given a sealed-off illuminated nose that resembles the butterfly design.
However, the Elroq is slightly bigger than the Kylaq, which will be a sub-four-meter SUV. The Kylaq’s bonnet appears to be inspired by the Elroq’s. Previous spy photographs have shown that the Kylaq would be equipped with 16-inch all-black alloy wheels, while the side profile will be clean and simple. Other visual highlights include the black roof rails, sunroof, and blacked-out pillars.
Skoda Kylaq: Expected features
The Kylaq is projected to feature a touchscreen infotainment system, a digital instrument console, wireless smartphone connectivity, ambient lighting, automatic climate management, and a 360-degree camera, to mention a few.
The Kylaq will be powered by a 1.0-litre turbocharged petrol engine, which also powers the Kushaq and Slavia. This petrol engine produces 114 horsepower and 175 Nm of peak torque. The engine will be paired with either a 6-speed manual or a torque converter automatic transmission.
The Specification to Note
The Skoda Elroq could be available with four powertrain choices,
Powertrain Options:
- 55 kWh battery with a 125 kW motor
- 63 kWh battery with a 150 kW motor
- 82 kWh battery with a single 210 kW motor
- 82 kWh battery with a dual-motor setup producing 220 kW
Range:
- Up to 560 km on a full charge with the maximum battery capacity
Skoda’s plans to launch the Elroq in India have yet to be revealed. Before the Elroq, Skoda is expected to introduce the Kylaq compact SUV in India, competing with the Tata Nexon, Hyundai Venue, Kia Sonet, and Nissan Magnite.
