Renault 4 EV new electric hatchback, inspired by the Renault 4, features retro design, shared platform with Renault 5, launching 2025.
The new Renault electric vehicle is indeed a hatchback that has certain cues from a crossover, although as we shall see further below it has a thick design inspiration from Renault’s 2022 concept car. It includes round headlamps associated with modern vehicles as well as a rectangular and angular body work that bears some resemblance to the Renault 4. At the rear, vertically positioned tail lamps in three groups, looking akin to a concept, the retro theme is maintained to the hilt. Profiles of the high-rising hatchback bring out massive body integrated skirts across the wheel bases alongside large alloy wheels and strong tyres.
Standout Exterior Features
One of the unique features that’s worth mentioning is the available ‘folded’ fabric roof, enhancing the design. The hatchback is also the first to come to the Renault models with a backlit emblem at the front part. Other features include a mini spoiler on the roof, trapezoidal rear quarter glass, overriders on the rear bumper and sculpted lines on the door sills. The design is consistent with Renault’s bigger electric hatchback, the Renault 5, which was introduced at the Geneva Motor Show earlier this year. The Renault 4 EV and 5 EVs now both sit on the Renault Group’s Ampr Small EV platform with the same 2.54-meter wheelbase.
Powertrain and Platform Details
The Renault 4 EV is set to come with powertrains similar to the Renault 5 and it is likely to mean three single-motor, front-wheel-drive setups of 94hp, 121hp and 148hp. Two battery types include a standard-range battery that occupies 40kWh and a long-range battery that occupies 52kWh.
Interior and Production Time Table
There is not much info about the interior just yet but the Renault 4 EV might have a dual-screen infotainment system like in the Renault 5, but might have less elaborate instrumentation. The plan is to start making the new car next summer at Renault’s ElectriCity complex in northern France.
India Launch Unlikely
Renault does not have plans to launch the Renault 4 EV model in India any time soon since the carmaker aims to concentrate on the new Duster SUV which is slated for a launch next year targeting the segment occupied by the Hyundai Creta.
