Porsche Cayenne EV will launch in 2025 alongside existing ICE models; future electric and combustion SUVs are also planned.
The electric version of the Cayenne that Porsche has long teased will finally debut by the end of 2025. The next one will carry electric powertrains with electric 4th-generation cayenne. The Cayenne EV will be Porsche’s second all-electric SUV following the launch of the electric Macan and will arrive toward the end of this year, according to CEO Oliver Blume who confirmed plans at an event on the West Coast.
Continued Sales
The internal combustion engine (ICE) Cayenne, though, will be sold alongside the new electric model. This means the two iterations of the luxury SUV will be available to customers, offering them a dual option of electric and gasoline powertrains. It seems that Porsche’s strategy is to offer a hybrid between the future and the past, giving their customers a choice of one or the other with the new-age EV or the tried and tested ICE options.
Shared Production
Just like the new generation of Cayenne, the EV version will be built in Bratislava, Slovakia, at the same plant that produces the Cayenne with an internal combustion engine. The shared production line between both electric and gasoline models shows how Porsche is trying to maintain efficiency within its manufacturing processes while heading into the electric future. A unified production approach also allows Porsche to scale up production of both powertrains as the industry pivots towards electric power.
V8 Engines
In an unexpected move, Porsche chooses not to repeat the same fate of the Macan in 2024 for an all-electric guise. The ICE version of the Cayenne will be offered until the late 2030s, and it’s rather exciting that it will continue with blistering V8 engines. They’re doing so due to continued demand from customers for high-performance vehicles equipped with internal combustion engines, particularly in regions where EV infrastructure is still emerging. For all of those who prefer the sound and performance of a V8, the Cayenne ICE will still present a strong alternative to the electric model.
Affordable Alternative
The Cayenne is joining the wave of vehicles heading for electrification, though it will continue to offer internal combustion engines for sale, Porsche is also planning a less costly luxury SUV alternative. Rather than pursue an all-electric stream, this new model will be offered with an internal combustion engine— likely targeting a more mass market demographic. This decision means that Porsche can attract customers to their line who may not yet be ready for an electric SUV but still desire a Porsche flavor of driving. This model is being marketed as an entry-level option for buyers, but the company stresses that it is not sacrificing Performance, and Luxury associated with the Porsche name will be built into the car.
Porsche’s drive toward EVs is also consistent with its sustainability objectives. With the introduction of a Cayenne EV and several other models of EVs, the company is working to reduce its carbon footprint and help the emissions goal in the automotive industry. The Porsche Cayenne EV is expected to launch soon, but the company is now making a generational shift to an electric future
With these new models on the way, we can probably expect to see electric 718 Boxster and Cayman S models as well as a larger dull 3-row flagship SUV, at least it’s good to know the world of performance and luxury vehicles will have a little space for Porsche, regardless of the direction they’re heading in.
