Nitin Gadkari says by 2030, the Indian EV industry will create 4 crore jobs, transforming transportation and boosting safety.
India is going to witness a revolution in its Indian electric vehicle (EV) segment as Union Minister Nitin Gadkari said that it may produce nearly 4 crore jobs in the country by the end of the year 2030. Delivering the keynote address at a technical workshop on the management of fire accidents in electric vehicles at National Fire Service College in Nagpur, Gadkari requested the
EV revolution as a global opportunity for India.
What Does the Leader Say?
To this, Gadkari said that India has 6% of lithium reserves and only in Jammu. This valuable resource is planned to help create 60 crore lithium-ion batteries for electric cars, simultaneously bringing down their cost. He mentioned that bringing the battery costs down will fast-track electrification across the country.
Safety Measures
Although 30 fire incidents related to electric two-wheelers have transpired in the past three years, Gadkari highlighted the enhancement of safety features. The necessity of a fire detection alarm in electric buses has resulted from a joint DRDO-Indian Institute of Technology project.
Waste Management Initiatives
The minister also pointed out that mandatory new rules for EV battery waste management will be implemented starting in 2022. These regulations involve the manufacturer in the recovery and recycling of the used batteries and therefore, petitions for sustainable management in EVs.
Clean Energy Future
Gadkari elaborated on the various strategies in India for using clean energy saying that hydrogen, ethanol, CNG, and electric fuels are the future. He said that 400 bio-CNG projects have been sanctioned out of which 60 projects are already under implementation and one such out-of-studied project is utilizing rice husks at the Bhandara district.
Growing Market
The number of electric vehicle registrations reached 30 lakh in the country up to now, and the sales during the FY 2023-24 increased by 45%,” replied Gadkari adding, “Today, electric vehicle market share is 6.4%.” For hybrid electric in 2025, he estimates that hybrid and electric vehicles will have a market share of more than 8%. Through about 400 new startups focusing on EVs, the market’s evolution has not only brought more innovation but also new employment.
The workshop includes main speakers such as the Director General of Fire Services in India: Vivek Srivastava and actor of Bollywood, Pratik Gandhi who is also a brand ambassador for fire safety . Ahead of the nation’s green revolution, the EV industry holds the prospects of stimulating the growth of the economy concurrently with the sustainability of the wellbeing of the environment.
