Prices of the MG Windsor EV increased up to Rs 50,000 in India. Outline the latest in BaaS pricing, functionality, and enhancements.
The favourite electric vehicle in the market, MG Windsor EV, in India has witnessed a price rise of Rs 50,000 on all the variants as of January 2025. This change marks the end of introductory pricing that has been in place since its release in September 2024. The ex-showroom prices have already been revised from Rs 13.99 lakh for the entry-level Excite to Rs 15.99 lakh for the top-of-the-range Essence.
Pricing Breakdown
Now, the Excite variant comes for Rs 14 lakh as opposed to earlier Rs 13.50 lakh. The exclusive variant has gone up from Rs 14.50 lakh to Rs 15 lakh and the Essence variant has gone up from its original price of Rs 15.50 lakh to Rs 16 lakh. This price rise is very steep and it represents the change that MG is pursuing to gain market appeal and consumer demand following the significant market penetration of the Windsor EV, which accounts for almost half of MG India’s sales.
Battery as a Service (BaaS) Update
In addition to the price increase, the subscription model known as “Battery as a Service” (BaaS) has also seen changes. The per-kilometer subscription charge has increased from Rs 3.5/km to Rs 3.9/km, but Ex-showroom prices of BaaS-equipped versions are still the same, either Rs 9.99 lac (Excite), Rs 10.99 lac (Exclusive), or Rs 11.99 lac (Essence). This type of model can be used to allow customers to separate the purchase price of the vehicle from the purchase price of the battery, which can create flexibility in ownership.
Charging Specifications
The MG Windsor EV comes standard with a powerful 38kWh lithium iron phosphate (LFP) battery which comes with an assessed range of about 332 km on a full charge. It provides DC fast charging up to 45kW, which allows users to charge the battery completely in 55 minutes. There is a particular interest in this functionality for urban drivers for whose use turnaround time is crucial.
Discontinuation of Free Charging Offer
Consistent with recent modifications, MG has also ended the free charging plan that made it possible to charge vehicles at no cost by using the MG e-hub application. The purpose of this application was to combine multiple charging stations into a single platform to provide user convenience. It should be noted that this benefit loss is unique because it was one of the components of the initial offer which has been designed to encourage early adopters.
Sales Performance
The Windsor EV has received honours, including being named “Green Car of the Year” at the Indian Car of the Year (ICOTY) awards, which further solidifies its position in the market. Since going on the market more than 10,000 units have been sold in a couple of months, evidence of its undisputed demand and the selling success.
Feature Highlights
The MG Windsor EV has a set of advanced facilities aimed at enhancing user experience:
Infotainment System: A big 15.6-inch capacitive touchscreen infotainment system featuring AppleCarPlay and Android Auto.
Comfort Features: Rear seats with a 135-degree tilting capacity and a 360-degree panoramic glass ceiling.
Safety Features: Fitted with 6 airbags, electronic stability control (ESC) and an all-around surround-view camera system.
These features make it competitive with other manufacturers (e.g., Mahindra XUV400 and Tata Nexon EV).
The rising price of the MG Windsor EV, as of now, is a result of market dynamics as well as the strategic play MG is making in the growing segment of the electric vehicle market in India. Moreover, given the increasing demand now, the Windsor EV and other vehicles of electromobility, which were just part of displays at trade fairs and were mentioned in speeches, were not only exhibited, but they were also going to be defined as a direct outcome of electromobility evolution: products of electromobility.
