MG Motor August sales rose by 9%, driven by NEVs. Upcoming Windsor EV launch expected with a 460km range, under Rs 20 lakh.
According to recent releases, JSW MG Motor successfully sold as many as 4,571 cars in August 2024, up by 9% from 4,185 units sold in August 2023. In particular, the company’s New Energy Vehicles (NEVs), such as ZS EV and Comet, comprised 1,600 cars or more than 35% of the total sales. However, the NEV segment has been growing and ICE vehicles still take up the largest market share where 2,971 units were sold accounting for 65% of the sales. This clearly shows that the market for conventional steel-bodied automobiles is still high within JSW MG Motor India’s product line.
Hybrid Astor Introduction
In the bid to add variation to its models, MG Motor launched the updated ZS, locally called the Astor, in a hybrid model across the globe. This model features a 101bhp 1.5-litre four-pot petrol engine mated with an 134bhp electric motor along with 1.83 kWh battery in a single package that produces 192bhp in total. While MG is still vague on when it will officially enter the Indian market, the hybrid Astor can help MG improve its standing in the country.
Looking Back at MG Motor Sales in the Month of July
New car sales figures show that MG Motor had sold 4,572 units in July 2024, which is 87% down from 5,012 units in July 2023. However, there was a decline in the sales of ordinary automobiles where the company’s electric cars including Comet and ZS EV crossed the 1,500 mark and demonstrated higher customer interest and demand in NEVs.
Upcoming Windsor EV Launch
Soon, the MG Motor will have another addition to the list of launched models, the third electric car, namely the Windsor EV, which will be launched on September 11, 2024. Not much has been revealed regarding the details of the vehicle, but the Windsor EV is expected to come in close resemblance to the global Wuling Cloud EV and will feature dual options of 37.9kWh and 50.6kWh batteries. The Indian model may get the larger battery pack that should propel the vehicle range up to 460 km; the car is expected to start at under Rs 20 lakh ex-showroom.
