Maruti Suzuki is ready to unveil the e-Vitara, its first electric vehicle, and has revealed photos of the SUV in crash testing.
Maruti Suzuki is ready to launch its first electric vehicle, the e-Vitara, soon. The production-ready car was showcased at the Bharat Mobility Expo 2025 last month. New photos show the Maruti e-Vitara undergoing multiple crash tests ahead of its formal unveiling.
While the tests appear to examine occupant safety, they are more likely internal corporate trials than official Bharat NCAP or Global NCAP assessments. According to the photographs, the vehicle went through a frontal crash test, a side impact test, and additional tests. The e-Vitara will compete with popular vehicles such as the Tata Curvv EV, MG ZS EV, Hyundai Creta EV, and the Mahindra BE 6.
Maruti Suzuki e Vitara: Battery, Range, Safety, and More
The e-Vitara is based on Maruti Suzuki’s all-new Heartect-e platform, which was specifically designed for EVs. The SUV will be offered with two battery sizes: 49 kWh and 61 kWh. Both use LFP ‘blade’ cells from BYD. The larger 61 kWh battery boasts a range of up to 500 km on a single charge.
Powertrain options vary depending on battery size. The 49 kWh variant has a front-mounted 144 hp motor, whereas the 61 kWh version has a more powerful 174 hp engine. Both models deliver 189 Nm of torque. Maruti Suzuki also provides an all-wheel-drive model with a dual-motor system that delivers 184 hp and 300 Nm. This makes it the most powerful version in the lineup.
In terms of safety, this will be the brand’s first vehicle to include Level 2 ADAS, which incorporates automatic emergency braking, lane keep assist, lane departure prevention, adaptive cruise control, and rear cross-traffic warning. Additional safety features include seven airbags, a 360-degree camera, a tire pressure monitoring system, ABS with EBD, an electronic parking brake, and AVAS (Acoustic Vehicle Alert System).
