The Mahindra Thar Roxx, XUV 3XO, and XUV400 EV were crash-tested at Bharat NCAP, and all three Mahindra SUVs received 5-star crash test safety ratings. These SUVs were subjected to many frontal and side-impact tests for both adult and child occupant protection, and here’s how they all performed.
Thar Roxx: Adult Occupant Protection
- Frontal Offset Deformable Barrier Test: 15.09 out of 16
- Side Movable Deformable Barrier Test: 16 out of 16
- Tested Variants: MX3 and AX5L
The driver and co-passenger both obtain ‘good’ protection for their heads, necks, and thighs during the frontal impact test. The co-passenger had ‘excellent’ overall body protection, while the driver’s chest and legs were rated only ‘sufficient’.In the side impact and side pole impact tests, the driver’s head, chest, waist, and hips obtained ‘excellent’ protection.
Thar Roxx received an adult occupant protection score of 31.09 out of 32. The Thar ROXX is the first body-on-frame SUV to earn a 5-star Bharat NCAP rating, the highest ever given to an internal combustion engine (ICE) vehicle.
Thar Roxx: Child Occupant Protection

The kid seat was installed facing rearward for both the 18-month-old and the 3-year-old youngster, and the off-roader passed both the front and side-impact tests.
In child occupant protection, the Thar Roxx received 45 out of 49 points.
XUV 3XO: Adult Occupant Protection

According to the frontal impact text, both the driver and co-passenger had ‘excellent’ protection on their heads, necks, and thighs. The co-passenger had ‘excellent’ tibia protection as well. However, the driver’s chest, foot, and right leg were deemed ‘sufficient’. The driver’s left leg was also described as having ‘marginal’ protection.
During the side and side pole impact tests, the driver’s complete body received ‘excellent’ protection, including the head, chest, waist, and hips. The XUV 3XO received a score of 29.36 out of 32 for adult occupant protection.
XUV 3XO: Child Occupant Protection

When evaluated for child occupant protection, both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old kid’s seats were installed facing rearward. Both youngsters were subjected to frontal and side-impact testing, with the 3XO receiving full points in both.
The Mahindra XUV 3XO has a 43 out of 49 rating for kid occupant protection.
XUV400 EV: Adult Occupant Protection

During the frontal impact test, the XUV400 provided ‘excellent’ protection to both the driver’s and co-passenger’s heads, necks and thighs. The driver obtained ‘good’ protection for his right leg, while the co-passenger earned ‘good’ protection overall. However, the driver’s chest, feet, and left leg were only adequately covered.
The XUV400, like the Thar Roxx and the XUV 3XO, provided ‘excellent’ overall head, chest, waist, and hip protection in side and side pole tests. It received 30.38 out of 32 points for adult occupant protection, which is higher than its upgraded ICE sibling (3XO).
XUV400 EV: Child Occupant Protection

- Vehicle Assessment Score: 7 out of 13
The XUV400 achieved the same child occupant protection performance as the XUV 3XO. The child seat was fitted facing rearward in both the 18-month-old and 3-year-old children, and frontal and side-impact tests were performed. The XUV400 obtained a full dynamic score.
The XUV400 EV scored 43 out of 49 marks for kid occupant protection.
Safety Equipment
All three models include six airbags, electronic stability control (ESC), a tire pressure monitoring system (TPMS), a hill hold assist, rear parking sensors, and ISOFIX child seat anchors. Models such as the Thar Roxx and XUV 3XO also get a 360-degree camera and Level-2 ADAS (advanced driver assistance systems).
While only a few variants of these cars were crash-tested, Bharat NCAP claims that the safety grade applies to all three SUVs.
Price
The Mahindra Thar Roxx is Mahindra’s most recent addition to the lineup, costing between Rs 12.99 lakh and Rs 22.49 lakh. Prices for the XUV 3XO range from Rs 7.79 lakh to Rs 15.49 lakh, while the XUV400 is priced between Rs 15.49 lakh and Rs 19.39 lakh.
