With more performance to offer, the Mahindra BE 6e shines brightly in this comparison against the more conservative Tata Curvv EV.
Mahindra has rewritten the rule book for electric SUVs in India with the debut of the BE 6e and XEV 9e. The BE 6e and XEV 9e were launched spectacularly at Mahindra’s Unlimit India event in Chennai, breaking all expectations and offering highly affordable prices. The smaller Mahindra BE 6e is priced at Rs 18.9 lakh (Ex-sh) and competes directly with the Tata Curvv EV.
Both offerings look to be modern and new-age. Both offerings are coupe SUVs. Furthermore, both are priced in similar ranges and are very similar and comparable in terms of dimensions. So let’s see how the Mahindra BE 6e compares to the Tata Curvv in terms of specs, dimensions, performance, and other features.
Mahindra BE 6e Vs Tata Curvv – Specs
We must begin this comparison with pricing, as that is currently the topic of the automobile world. The BE 6e starts at Rs 18.9 lakh (Ex-Sh) for the base Pack 1 with a 59 kWh battery and 231 hp motor. In comparison, the Tata Curvv is significantly less expensive, starting at Rs 17.5 lakh (Ex-Sh), but the base model has a 45 kWh battery and a 150 hp motor.
It should be noted that the BE 6e’s base battery of 59 kWh is still much larger than Curvv’s higher-spec 55 kWh battery. The primary difference between the BE 6e and the Curvv EV is the powertrain setup. BE 6e is a RWD vehicle with up to 286 hp and 380 Nm of peak torque, whereas Curvv is a FWD vehicle with up to 167 bhp and 215 Nm.
BE 6e can accelerate from 0 to 100 km/h in 6.7 seconds, whilst Curvv takes 8.6 seconds. Mahindra has added fun to the equation with RWD, which is currently not found in any of the mainstream electric SUVs available in India. The primary reason for this is that BE 6e is a ground-up EV, whereas Curvv is a derivative EV with significantly less freedom for engineers.
Where range is concerned, Mahindra offers 500+ kilometres on a single charge with a 79 kWh battery variant under real-world settings with AC on. The claimed range by ARAI is 682 kilometres. Because of its smaller battery, the Curvv EV’s range is significantly shorter, at 502 km (MIDC) and up to 425 km with Tata’s C75 Range metrics for the larger 55 kWh option.
Which Vehicle is Larger?
Another significant feature of the Mahindra BE 6e is the lifetime, non-transferable warranty for first-time buyers. The Curvv EV’s battery warranty is limited to 8 years or 1,60,000 kilometres. Mahindra once again has an upper hand when it comes to charging, with support for up to 175 kW of DC fast charging compared to Curvv’s 75 kW. Tata includes a 7.2 kW AC charger as standard, while Mahindra has a 7.2 kW or 11.2 kW option, both optional.
BE 6e outperforms Curvv EV in terms of size, measuring 61 mm longer, 97 mm wider, and having a 215 mm larger wheelbase. Curvv EV is 10mm taller. Curvv EV has a larger 500L boot, while BE 6e’s boot is slightly smaller at 455L. However, the BE 6e has a 45L trunk, whereas the Curvv has an 11.5L trunk.
Despite its larger vehicle, the Mahindra BE 6e has a smaller turning radius of 10m because of variable geometry in its steering gear ratios. Curvv wheels peak out at 18 inches, whereas BE 6e wheels start at 18 and run to 20 inches. Even the tyre sizes vary. Curvv EV has a top section of 215, whilst BE 6e has a section of 245-section tyres.
