The Kia Carens EV is slated to be released in the second half of next year, providing a new take on the popular MPV with a more futuristic look.
The Kia India plans to launch its first mass-market electric vehicle next year, hoping to expand its footprint in the fast-expanding EV segment. The company has ambitious goals to attain annual sales of 4 lakh units in India by 2030, establishing the country as one of its top markets, closely trailing South Korea, its second-largest market globally.
Competitors in the Market
The manufacturer just debuted the fourth-generation Carnival and the EV9 electric SUV in India, and both are imported through the CBU channel. The brand is now working on a facelifted version of the ICE Carnival and a new electric MPV based on the Carens. The latter will most likely compete with the recently announced MG Windsor EV and a slew of new midsize e-SUVs.
Exterior Design and Styling
The Kia Carens EV is expected to debut in the latter half of next year, adding a new spin to the existing MPV. Along with its electric powertrain, the Carens EV may feature enhanced technologies and luxury features to distinguish it from the regular variant. The outside design may also be altered to highlight the EV’s identity.
Range and Technical features
While full technical specs are unknown, the Carens EV is expected to have a driving range of over 500 kilometres on a single charge, making it a strong contender in the electric MPV segment. The Kia Carens EV will be fitted with a fully digital instrument console, automated climate control, ventilated seats, and a 12.3-inch touchscreen infotainment system with wireless Apple CarPlay and Android Auto connectivity.
Interior and Safety Features
The choice of sustainable materials inside the cabin emphasizes its eco-friendliness, while in-car connected technology and wireless smartphone charging offer convenience. 6 standard airbags and Level 2 ADAS improve safety, while a panoramic sunroof adds a premium touch to the overall package.
Future Models and Expansion
This fresh model is likely to attract buyers seeking a bigger and more high-end option in the sub-compact SUV category relative to the Sonet. Besides, another EV for the Indian market could also be built based on the Syros platform which would further improve the EV portfolio of Kia.
