Kia Carens EV debuts in 2024 with shared platform, 45kWh battery, restyled design, and competition against BYD eMax 7.
The Kia Carens has been planned for a major new model change next year with the MPV set to have an all- électrique variant for India. New spy images have emerged and they reveal what separates the Carens EV from the ICE version.
Design and Exterior Changes
As is customary with many electric-vehicle conversions, the Carens EV will not be drastically different from the standard model for the most part; however, there will be some significant exterior and interior design tweaks. At the front, a closed-off grille will be integrated into the front-end design like the recently unveiled Kia EV9 flagship model. Furthermore, both front and rear bumpers will be redesigned and the alloy wheels will mimic those with the Kia EV lineup, more specifically, the Kia EV3 and Kia EV5 models.
Fluids, Filters and Components Plus Drivetrain
From looking at our test mule, one could also tell that the suspension setup on the Carens EV seems quite different from the ICE variant, again, there is no sign of an exhaust pipe since it’s an all-electric vehicle. The Carens EV will closely borrow from the Creta EV that will be launched soon, featuring a 45kWh battery pack, and a front-mounted electric motor. This motor is used in the bare-boned version of the next generation Kona EV, so this shows platform sharing with this model too.
Rivals & Launch Timeline
When the Carens EV is launched, it will be up against a single vehicle – the BYD eMax 7 – in the electric MPV segment. The new Carens EV is poised for a global rollout within the first half of 2024.
Before the Carens EV goes on sale, Kia will launch a number of new vehicles, the Carnival and EV9 on the 3rd of October, 2024, and then the Syros in the first quarter of 2025.
