JSW MG Motor India launches India’s first high-voltage second-life battery with Vision Mechatronics, promoting circular economy and sustainability.
JSW MG Motor India in partnership with Vision Mechatronics announced the development of India’s first high voltage second life battery with its Indian developed Battery Management System. It forms a part of the larger project- Project Revive and is being displayed at The Battery Show being held in Greater Noida from October 3-5, 2024.
Promoting a Circular Economy
This new battery is the third prototype of second-life battery applications from JSW MG, which demonstrates the company’s focus on creating a circular economy and improving the EV cycle. First, the used battery will be deployed for backup power application at an industrial plant in Pune city to demonstrate the application of large scale, second-life battery storage in electric vehicles. Vision Mechatronics was involved in the project and in particular on the second-life battery technology.
Advanced Safety and Monitoring Systems
The second-life battery is high-voltage and intended for stationary use with enhanced monitoring for the battery’s performance and reliability. All safety measures such as the measures against thermal runaway have been incorporated to ensure that the battery presents no risks making it suitable for use in industrial energy storage systems.
Statements from Leadership
‘The collaboration with Vision Mechatronics embodies our circular economy strategy to reuse and repurpose EV batteries for industrial application,’ added Gaurav Gupta, Chief Growth Officer at JSW MG Motor India. “This project underlines our consistent work on creating infrastructure for sustainable development of the EV market.”
Dr. Rashi Gupta, the Managing Director of Vision Mechatronics, pointed out that ReLive, developed in collaboration, is an India-first high-voltage repurposing battery with an integrated native BMS. It provides a valuable, affordable service and supports the circular economy at the same time.”
