Jaguar plans to release its electric car Grand Tourer (GT) concept on Dec 2 2024 during Miami Art Week for the carmaker’s shift to luxury electric vehicles.
Jaguar has reported its first electric vehicle model on record, the Jaguar electric GT equipped to be released as an idea on December 2, 2024, during Miami Art Week. This is a massive change for the brand as it moves away from conventional internal combustion engine vehicles and into fully electric vehicles. The new GT has been designed to establish Jaguar as a reborn luxury car maker to rival Maserati, Porsche, and Bentley.
First Testing Spotted
Earlier this year the Jaguar GT was caught out on public roads for the first time. Even though artists’ impressions are mostly obscured, the basic design reveals a distinctively sporty look with a coupe roof and hood stretching far back. The car body pre-design suggests the sleek and sporting performance of the car with a stance apparent by a longitudinally rear-set cabin and a compact boot. Notably, the lower half of the vehicle has very erect structuring and this is in stark conformity to the convex roofline, it features rather large wheels that are affiliated to low profile tyres. Notably, the front looks like it has a pretend grille vent, which may suggest that Jaguar tried to hide the last design or that the company left some cues to subsequent design ideas for electric vehicles1.
Specifications
The new Jaguar GT is underpinned by the brand’s unique Jaguar Electric Architecture (JEA). Regarding more specific technological nuances, there is still no information, but preliminary information indicates that the car will have a range of about 700 kilometres and power estimated at 575 horsepower. This performance puts Jaguar in today’s goal of introducing luxurious electric vehicles that offer superior performance to existing models in the market.
Price Range
On the issue of costs, it is believed that the Jaguar electric car GT is likely to be priced above £100,000 (around ₹1 crore) in the UK market. This puts it strategically in a confrontational relationship with other electric performance cars such as the Porsche Taycan. However, Jaguar’s management has not disclosed any intentions of launching this model in India. Since Tata Motors has a control stake in Jaguar Land Rover there is a possibility that this electric GT could be launched in the Indian market in the years to come23.
Future Concept Showcase
In the upcoming Miami Art Week, Jaguar electric car GT won’t be alone; three more additional concept cars are planned as part of Jaguar’s electrification plan. This event can be seen as the next step in Jaguar’s attempts to change its positioning strategy and start leaving behind the race against Mercedes-Benz, Audi, and the like, becoming a unique luxury car brand, focusing on electric cars13.
With this in mind, Jaguar seems poised to enter a new era, and fans and analysts of the luxury automotive sector are keen to see this play out.
