Hyundai is to bring a real change in electric mobility in India with electric innovative models like the Kona EV and the Ioniq 5 while preparing for the Creta EV!
India’s foray into electric vehicles has yet to touch the apex; the South Korean automotive giant has taken the plunge and brought about enticing measures about electric vehicles. As it pencils in the launch of the new EV model for the mass market in January 2025, the company hails itself as already having cast a shadow in the evolving Indian automotive arena. Not only has it initially developed new segments, but it has led the market with well-designed products: Hyundai is again ahead of the car today.
Hyundai Kona EV
Hyundai made its foray into the fully electric world in India with the launch of the Kona EV in 2019. The country had up to that point barely done anything with EVs, and it was just too fresh to have tested much of that stuff. The Kona EV was a real breakthrough that showed that electric cars could be slick, practical, and high-performing. It was indeed sleek in design and impressive in features as if demonstrating that EVs were not for techies but for anyone that would be willing to adopt greener conditions.
The Kona EV broke records by becoming the first EV to cross the highest altitude of any pass, the Sawula Pass in the Tibetan world. This was the scientific value of its nose-to-nose experience and proved Hyundai’s seriousness toward electric mobility.
The Specification
The Kona EV was meant particularly for the Indian consumer. It assured a high ARAI-certified range of 452 km on a single charge, taking care of the then lack of charging infrastructure. It was powered by a 39.2 kWh battery and was capable of producing 136PS and 395Nm accelerating from rest to 100km/h in 9.7 seconds. Such performance made long-distance travel for EV users even feasible when charging stations were less troubled.
The Kona EV had a thing that Hyundai was already known about- reliability and low maintenance costs. It had hardly anything to do with green consciousness, as the idea was reducing the running cost while pampering oneself in comfort during drives.
But today the Hyundai Ioniq 5 is garnering attention in the whole of India. Being considered very retro-futuristic and ultra-sophisticated, this is the car for modern electric mobility. The Ioniq 5 boasts a 72.6 kWh power-packed battery providing 217 PS at 350 Nm and allows it to speed from 0 to 100 km/h in 7.6 seconds.
An impressive ARAI-certified range of 631 km has been offered to ensure that the driver doesn’t have to think about running out of space for long-distance travel. The accolades of the celebrity car have not escaped it, thus making it the winner of the super coveted Green Car of the Year Award at the ICOTY 2024 awards.
Advanced Features
Ioniq 5 futuristic characteristics comprise the next generation of comfort-and-safety features in an automobile. Inside: a gliding centre console, augmented reality heads-up display (AR HUD), and dual-use 12.3-inch displays serve as infotainment or driver-interface screens. The panoramic glass roof within the cabin expresses a sense of space.
Of course, one does get acquainted with multiple connectivity options that support both Apple CarPlay and Android Auto. And of course, the car is equipped with ADAS features such as Highway Driving Assist 2 and Forward Collision-Avoidance Assist for added peace of mind while on the road.
Network Charging
Recognising that charging infrastructure is a key enabler for large-scale EV adoption, Hyundai India is now augmenting the electric mobility ecosystem with a network of around 600 fast charging stations across India in the next seven years. By the end of this month, Hyundai aims to have 50 stations operational, significantly easing range anxiety for could-be buyers. These charging stations have already facilitated around 50,000 charging sessions, benefiting over 10,000 EV users who choose either Hyundai or non-Hyundai vehicles.
Hyundai Creta EV
The story does not end here for Hyundai in terms of electric mobility. After Kona and Ioniq 5, Hyundai is now set to morph one of India’s most-loved SUVs Creta-into electronic forms with a launch expected by January 2025. This will ensure that the new model will combine the features of practicality and popularity with innovative electric technology.
To make this form of mobility more available to Indian consumers, the most pertinent will be making an electric version that appears adapted but futuristic. Such a deliberate act will also access the mass buyers who are eclectic between reliable yet modern options.
Looking Towards the Future
Hyundai sets the pace for electric mobility in India with the innovative products that it has brought to the country: the Kona EV, a pioneer model launched in 2019; the introduction of the luxury Ioniq 5; and now preparing for the Creta EV. We are setting the highest standards in the industry and even beyond – nationally. When India chooses green transportation options, Hyundai’s contribution is going to guarantee the use of electric vehicles by many consumers in the country. They will not only choose to buy it but will also prefer to use it instead of taking those alternatives to mobility. With technology getting more attention taken by designs and consumer needs, Hyundai is poised to electrify India to meet future challenges; it is inevitable.
