Hyundai Motor will introduce the Creta EV, an electric version of its best-selling model, at the Bharat Mobility Show in January 2025.
Hyundai Motor is preparing to debut the Creta EV, its third electric vehicle in India, following the Kona and Ioniq 5 electric SUVs. At the Bharat Mobility Show in January next year, the Korean automaker will present an electric SUV based on its best-selling model in India. Hyundai has been observed testing the Creta EV across India ahead of its much-anticipated launch. The latest spy image captured the electric SUV on a route near Delhi.
The Competitors
The latest spy photo of the Creta EV reveals that the future electric SUV will have taillights that are similar to those found on the conventional model. Hyundai debuted the new Creta SUV in January of this year, with a revised design and amenities. The spy photo shows that the Creta EV is set to maintain much of its style. When it launches, the Creta EV will compete with the Tata Curvv EV as well as some of the planned electric SUVs such as the Maruti Suzuki e Vitara, Tata Harrier EV, and Honda Elevate EV.
The camouflaged test mule captured on video shows the Creta EV with a linked taillight at the rear, a similar bumper, and a shark-fin antenna, among other features. All of these amenities are available in the regular SUV that debuted earlier this year. The absence of a tailpipe will be the most significant change in the Creta EV. Expect Creta EV badges on the back as well.
Hyundai betting big on Creta EV
Hyundai is counting heavily on the Creta EV to help it get a foothold in the EV segment, which is currently dominated by its rival Tata Motors. Hyundai Motor India’s Director stated, “We will be launching the Creta EV for the mass market in the coming months, and we expect it to be a game changer in the EV market.” Hyundai now sells the Ioniq 5 as their sole EV after the Kona was withdrawn. Hyundai only sold 33 EVs in October, much fewer than the majority of its top competitors in the segment. This year, the automaker has sold more than 850 EVs.
Hyundai Creta EV: Design
The Creta EV will look slightly different from its standard brother. Previous spy pictures suggest that, while the LED headlamp and DRL designs would remain unchanged, the grille will be closed rather than the usual radiator grille given. The alloy wheel design is expected to differ from that of the SUV’s ICE variant. The Creta EV’s interior will be more luxurious, with fresh upholstery such as Creta Electric badging, a new gear selector, and an upgraded centre console layout. Changes could also feature a new three-spoke steering wheel and ambient lighting with customizable profiles.
Hyundai Creta EV: Range & Battery
Hyundai Motor has not released any information on the powertrain or battery size. Expect the Creta EV to be available in two models, each with a different battery pack. The Hyundai Creta EV is likely to have a 45 kWh battery pack with a range of approximately 450 kilometres on a single charge. A larger 55 kWh unit is also expected, which could boost the range to over 500 kilometres.
