The Honda Activa EV will offer Standard and Sport ride levels, but the TFT instrument console will be limited to top-end versions.
The Honda Activa EV is generating buzz with its latest teaser, showcasing a TFT instrument console and two distinct ride modes: Standard and Sport. The design of this electric scooter caters to a variety of riding preferences. On the other hand, sport mode is created to provide the highest speed. The Standard mode guarantees a range of 104 km per charge, which places it firmly in the emerging electric scooter segments.
Instrument Console
The teaser shared alongside the Activa EV unveiling confirms that the top-end version of the motorcycle will feature a TFT display, while the lower variants will come with an LCD console. Controls on the TFT console will include trip readings, time, range distance, operational music, and further navigation. That being said, the base model will probably lack the Sport mode. It will also probably feature a simpler interface.
Performance Expectations
Although detailed performance has not been announced, the Activa EV will generate the power and torque of the 110-125 cc scooter. This makes it ready to compete with rivals. These rivals include the Ola S1 series, Bajaj Chet ak, and TVS iQube in the electric scooter division. Previous teasers suggested a drum brake configuration and rear mono-shock suspension, which added great value to the scooter.
Design Innovations
This implies that Unigroup will unveil an all-new design for the Activa EV, which will set it apart from the ICE model. Significantly, the headlamp is situated in the apron area and is not mounted high as in the case of petrol models. Further, it will incorporate the advanced type of LED light technology for the frontal and rear illumination.
Market Positioning
Honda intends to introduce this scooter in various models equipped with either a drum or disc brake system. The expected price tag of the bike to be between ₹1 lakh and ₹1.5 lakh (ex-showroom) makes it affordable. But at the same time, it comes with many premium features. Orders may start in February 2025, and production will begin soon as the market launches on November 27, 2024, in Bengaluru.
Final Thoughts
Activa EV is Honda’s debut in the fast-growing electric scooter segment and it appears that Honda is coming out strong. That is, if it has different riding modes and enhanced display both inside and out, it can become a trendsetter for the entire electric vehicle segment. This is evident with Honda’s desire to demonstrate it is commercially ready and committed to the future of sustainability, of the electric car market.
