Hero MotoCorp plans to launch a “Battery-as-a-Service” (BaaS) model for its upcoming Vida VX2 electric scooter, going live on July 1, 2025. The “pay-as-you-go” concept will significantly reduce the initial cost of getting an electric scooter, which is a big barrier for customers.
A major two-wheeler manufacturer, Hero MotoCorp, plans to redefine electric scooter ownership by presenting a “Battery-as-a-Service” (BaaS) model for its upcoming Vida VX2 electric scooter. This unique subscription-based method, which will go live on July 1, 2025, the core intention is to make electric vehicles (EVs) more affordable and readily available to a broader spectrum of customers across India.
Customers will no longer have to purchase the pricey battery pack separately from the scooter under the BaaS model. Instead, customers will be able to finance the scooter’s main body (chassis) and the battery separately. This “pay-as-you-go” concept has the goal of significantly reducing the initial cost of getting an electric scooter, which is a big barrier for many potential buyers.
According to Hero MotoCorp, customers will be able to choose from a number of customisable subscription plans based on their daily or monthly usage and budget. This gives you more financial freedom and peace of mind because subscriptions frequently cover battery maintenance and replacement costs. The company expects that this new model will alleviate typical concerns about EV ownership, such as the high initial cost and expected battery degradation over time. Hero MotoCorp is taking a strategic effort to enhance the country’s adoption of electric transport by segregating battery costs.
The Vida VX2 is intended to be a more affordable option, sitting below the existing Vida V2 series. According to industry observers, it will simply be a rebranded version of the Vida Z concept, which has already been shown and will be available in multiple variants, potentially including ‘Lite,’ ‘Plus,’ and ‘Pro,’ akin to the V2 range. While full specs will be released upon launch, early glimpses point to a striking matte yellow finish, modern LED projector headlamps, LED tail lights, LED sequential turn signals, and stunning 12-inch dual-tone alloy wheels.
To keep the VX2’s price affordable, it is anticipated that the scooter will use classic drum brakes on both ends and a physical key slot, compared to the V2’s smart key technology. However, it will keep its easy-removable battery design, with capacity options ranging from 2.2 kWh to 3.9 kWh and a stated range of up to 165 kilometers, depending on the model. The Vida VX2 is projected to start at around Rs 65,000 ex-showroom, competing directly with lesser variants of popular electric scooters such as the Bajaj Chetak Electric and TVS iQube.
Hero MotoCorp will rely on its robust EV ecosystem to support this new model, which includes over 3,600 fast-charging stations and 500+ service outlets spread across more than 100 cities. The business has also been marketing their “Charging Simple Hai” campaign, which emphasizes how easy it is to charge Vida’s removable batteries with any regular 5-amp household plug.
Hero MotoCorp’s strategic move, which has already had a favorable impact on its stock performance, demonstrates the company’s commitment to democratizing electric mobility and promoting greater use of EVs in the Indian market. Full details on the Vida VX2’s BaaS subscription options, including pricing and comprehensive features, will be announced at the launch event on July 1, 2025.
