Epsilon Group to build advanced EV battery facilities in Karnataka invests Rs.15,350 crore to cut dependence on imports and enhance India’s self-reliance.
In a pioneering move, Epsilon Group Edification, the leading organisation in the field of carbon black and advanced battery technologies, has unveiled plans to invest Rs. 15,350 crores in Karnataka. This investment will primarily cover advanced EV battery manufacturing plants, including facilities for Graphite Anode and LFP Cathode materials. It plans to over the next 10 years cut India’s dependency on imports and grow the country’s electric vehicle ecosystem.
Strategic Focus
Investments will be made in multiple phases and will be rolled out with an initial investment of Rs. 9,000 crore for a Graphite Anode manufacturing plant and Rs. 6,000 crore for an LFP Cathode plant as well. Of this, about Rs. 250 crore will be spent on setting up an R&D and testing center.
Job Creation
The job creation potential of Epsilon’s project has already been alluded to, estimating over 2000 direct jobs for locals. Karnataka will have over 80 R&D and manufacturing jobs and retain several training and skills roles in its new complement.
Technological Growth
Epsilon Group on Wednesday announced the appointment of Vikram Handa as Managing Director. The investments will be aimed at sustainable manufacturing practices for high-performance materials to be in line with India’s vision of being self-reliant in advanced battery technology.
Reducing Imports
A key goal of this investment is to lessen India’s reliance on imported materials, particularly those from China, which currently controls much of the global supply chain for critical battery materials. Epsilon aims to facilitate domestic manufacturing and pass on domestic EV production costs as Graphite Anode and LFP Cathode materials will be locally produced through Epsilon Linke.
Sustainable Manufacturing
The products produced by Epsilon Group are composed of 100% sustainable produced materials and ensure very minimal impact on the environment while using them. The company will focus on reducing the carbon footprint of its operations and be a part of building materials that lead to a green, sustainable future of the country`s electric vehicle industry.
Supporting Atmanirbhar
The investment of Rs. 15,350 crore is in line with India’s Atmanirbhar Bharat (Self-Reliant India) initiative. What does the Epsilon Group do? The Epsilon Group’s battery materials will build the battery supply chain locally, enabling energy independence from foreign countries.
Government Support
The initiative will also be extended with support from the Karnataka government. This collaboration will accelerate the project to establish the facilities by the state’s industrial development strategy.
Global Impact
Epsilon’s investment puts India in a position to play a significant role in the worldwide EV battery market. India will be much more self-reliant by localizing the supply chain with battery materials and can entice all the Original Equipment Manufacturers (OEMs) and battery manufacturers across the globe for reliable and non-China dependent suppliers.
Sustainable Future
This work comes in the face of not only meeting current demand for EVs but also pursuit of a more sustainable EV ecosystem in the near future. Epsilon shall enable a cleaner tomorrow through research and development and innovation in EV battery solutions, ensuring newer, more efficient and less expensive solutions for EV batteries.
Long-Term Vision
The success of this initiative will create a long-lasting impact to develop a sustainable battery manufacturing ecosystem in India. Epsilon’s work to localize production and reduce dependence on imports matches the broader goals of economic development, energy independence, and technological innovation for India.
As the final investment decision for the Rs. 15,350 crore investment by Epsilon Group in Karnataka what lies ahead is a critical move towards establishing a self-sufficient EV battery ecosystem in India. This strategic move will spur jobs, lower the dependency on imports, and promote India’s clean energy and electric mobility aspirations.” Innovating the road ahead, Epsilon is laying the paving for India: the future of EV manufacturing made locally, for the world, like never before, shall rest with India, making her the new capital of the world.
