Bentley first electric vehicle, the luxurious “Urban SUV,” promises luxury style and eco-friendly performance to high-end EV enthusiasts.
Bentley Motors is moving toward an all-electric future, with plans to launch its first fully battery-electric vehicle (BEV) in 2026. Bentley’s first BEV, as part of the company’s ambitious Beyond100 goal, will be a high-end luxury SUV dubbed an “Urban SUV.”
Sneak Peek at the Design
Although specifics are limited, Bentley has released teaser photographs that hint at the style and breadth of the next BEV. The design is expected to be similar to Bentley’s current luxury SUV model, the Bentayga, but with significant changes to fit the BEV’s unique powertrain and the Urban SUV’s target market.
Building on PHEVs
The Urban SUV is expected to include lessons from Bentley’s recent push into plug-in hybrid electric vehicle (PHEV) technology, which might serve as a solid foundation for its battery-electric platform. Bentley’s progress with PHEVs has already laid the groundwork for its engineers, potentially enabling the transition to a completely electric lineup and increasing consumer confidence in Bentley’s electric vehicles.
Bentley Electric Future
This BEV’s launch is consistent with Bentley’s Beyond100 strategy, which aims to transform the company into an all-electric luxury brand by 2035. Bentley plans to launch a new PHEV or BEV vehicle every year until 2030, effectively eliminating internal combustion engines. Beginning in 2035, all new Bentleys will be electric.
Bentley’s Eco Club
The Urban SUV will be designed, developed, and built at Bentley’s headquarters in Crewe, England. Bentley has made significant investments in the Crewe facility, with a focus on eco-friendly procedures and high-tech assembly lines designed for BEV manufacture. Bentley intends to maintain its reputation for British craftsmanship and quality control by consolidating electric vehicle production in Crewe, while also satisfying new sustainability standards.
Meeting Today’s High Standards
Bentley hasn’t released how its parent company will aid in the creation of its first electric SUV but as a member of the Volkswagen Group, which comprises Porsche and Audi, it is sure to draw on their expertise. This shared knowledge will most likely help Bentley build the Urban SUV efficiently while also meeting today’s high standards for luxury EVs.
