Mahindra changes its EV charger policy, leaving it optional for BE 6 and XEV 9e SUVs under the condition.
India’s Mahindra has altered its EV charger policy specifically for its BE 6 and XEV 9e SUVs, which have been rocking inside the Indian mainstream EV market. These changes will offer increased flexibility and convenience to EV customers, particularly those who don’t require a company-installed charger.
New Charger Policy
Under the new policy, the BE 6 and XEV 9e Mahindra buyers can choose to skip buying the charger given by the company, which earlier was a compulsory purchase. There are specific facility requirements for EV owners that will have to be met to implement this initiative. These are three conditions for not buying the charger.
If you do not have the facilities at home or the office to get a private charger.
As long as you already have a charger that meets Mahindra’s safety standards.
Then again, if you are bringing home two or more Mahindra e-SUVs to the family, one charging point might be enough.
Mahindra will continue to sell the 7.2kW AC charger and the 11.2kW AC charger for customers that do not qualify for these conditions. The chargers , which are priced at Rs 50,000 & Rs 75,000, respectively, must be bought with the vehicles.
Vehicle Charging Features
Mahindra is an ambitious player in the EV space and has introduced BE 6 and XEV 9e. Notably, the BE 6 offers two battery pack options: A 59kWh pack and a larger 79kWh pack. They will be charged from 0 to 100 percent in 8 hours with an 11kW charger. It takes 11.7 hours with a 7.2kW charger. On the other hand, the smaller 59kWh battery is available in multiple configurations, and charging it with the 11kW charger takes around 6 hours, while the 7.2kW charger takes around 8.7 hours.
Mahindra’s other electric SUV, the XEV 9e, has similar charging specs and options as the BE 6. It has the 79kWh and 59kWh battery packs on offer, and the charging times are the same, depending on the charger used.
Flexible Charging Options
Declining to implement this policy puts the charging policy at a much more flexible time, as many consumers are still trying to figure out how feasible owning an electric vehicle is — especially in terms of home charging options. As the demand for EVs rises, while selecting an enabling charger at home is a key part of making electric mobility more accessible to a wider audience, such options are indispensable for customers who don’t need one or can’t build a charger at home.
Mahindra’s revised policy allows potential buyers to evaluate their requirements before a charger purchase is finalised. This feature is particularly important for buyers in urban areas where private chargers may not be accessible. Now, if someone already has a compatible charger or if he/she owns multiple Mahindra e-SUVs, then the redesigned policy can come in handy from a cost perspective also.
Pricing Structure
Mahindra itself sells a 7.2kW AC charger for Rs 50,000 and an 11.2kW AC charger for Rs 75,000, but these will be optional for Mahindra customers who buy its EVs. These are supposed to offer fast-charging speeds and work with BE 6 and XEV 9e.
Plus, the ability to purchase these chargers as an optional accessory rather than a mandate only adds to the overall flexibility that Mahindra’s new EV policy will bring to customers looking for the best solution for their specific requirements.
Availability and Delivery
Mahindra’s BE 6 and XEV 9e models are also scheduled to be launched around mid-March. The new policy on chargers is likely to serve a larger clientele, especially those planning to buy a charger but were reluctant to make a spend on a gadget they would not have been able to use or install.
With these revisions in place, Mahindra hopes to provide an impetus for a higher uptake of EVs for the masses. This flexibility provided in the new policy helps tackle some of the common EV ownership concerns, such as lack of home charging infrastructure or the price of needing to purchase additional equipment.
Growing EV Market
India’s electric vehicle (EV) market is booming, driven by increasing environmental awareness and both government policy and a growing cohort of consumers looking to reduce their carbon emissions. This is likely to be a boon for family users and people waiting for the EVs to succeed in this country.
While many players entering the electric vehicle space have been focusing on developing new electric vehicles with more convenient options at a lower price in the market, brands like Mahindra are on their feet as well. This flexibility in charging options is just one aspect of how Mahindra is aiming to be a leader in India’s growing EV space.
EV Ownership
Yes, Mahindra’s move is a positive one in terms of democratising electric vehicles, but it also sets a hint for other automakers across the industry. The company’s network of electric charging stations and their 24/7 operation will further strengthen the EV PET and strengthen Luxshare/US in the economy with the growing demand for EVs.
As technology and infrastructure continue to improve, owning an electric vehicle will only become easier in the coming years. This move by Mahindra in the form of this new EV charger policy is an early sign that the iconic company is serious about facilitating the transition to electric mobility as seamlessly as the firm can for its customers.
Mahindra’s updated EV charger policy is a game-changer for electric vehicle infrastructure. This gives potential customers an added flexibility as the company is making the purchase of chargers optional for specific buyers. The deal also reinforces Mahindra’s dedication to delivering convenient and tailored solutions to address the needs of the varied customer base of EV owners.
With a focus on innovation and sustainability, Mahindra’s BE 6 and XEV 9e will help propel the company into becoming leaders in India’s electric vehicle market. Mahindra is committed to staying at the helm of India’s electric vehicle revolution, with a clear direction towards flexibility, saving costs, and convenience.
