ARACT partners with Piaggio India to develop LFP batteries for EVs, advancing India’s energy transition with groundbreaking manufacturing facilities.
Amara Raja Advanced Cell Technologies (ARACT) has signed a Major MoU with Piaggio India – An Italian Motor Vehicle Manufacturing Company for Manufacturing and Supply of Lithium Iron Phosphate (LFP) Lithium-Ion (Li-ion) cells and Chargers for Electric vehicles. This cooperation is an important development to ensure better quality, durability and efficiency of Piaggio’s electric three-wheelers and the upcoming models of two-wheelers. Importantly, the company will rely on the ARACT’s function in the local production of these cells and battery packs that will correspond to the growing need for reliable EV solutions in India.
Revolutionary advancement in cellular production
Interestingly, the ARACT group recently marked the start of the construction of an essential technical facility- Customer Qualification Plant CQP- at Divitipally in Mahabubnagar district. This kind of facility is unique in India, and this represents the first modern age power plant in the country that is moving into the modern energy system. The start of the construction for the battery pack plant, specifically the initial phase holding a 1.5 GWh capability, shows ARACT’s determination in delivering high-end Li-ion battery packs suited for Indian requirements. These packs shall not only be available to meet the requirements of key electric vehicle OEMs but will also address the stationary energy storage market requirements.
Flexible Production and Technology Development for the Future
The CQP, in this regard, is expected to be completed and fully functional in the first quarter of the next fiscal year to manufacture different cell types for customers’ qualification. This is supported by ARACT’s partnership with Gotion Inobat (GIB) on improvement of technology, manufacturing processes, and applications for specific needs. The project was described by the Executive Director Vikramadithya Gourineni as being critical to India’s energy prospects.
Expanding Global Footprint
Moreover, the organization ARACT has inked a MoU with Ather Energy; another key contender in the EV market, to support the indigenization of EV solutions. Furthermore, to complement these developments, ARACT has acquired a 9.32% stake in Norwegian battery manufacturing company InoBat AS.
