EVs are expected to dominate 2025, with launches from major automakers like Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, Tata Motors, Mahindra, Mercedes, and Audi.
After 2024 highlighted concerns about EV adoption, 2025 is expected to see a spike in electric vehicles (EVs), with green cars launching at a variety of pricing points, the majority of which are SUVs. Almost every automaker, including latecomer Maruti Suzuki, Hyundai, luxury brands Mercedes and Audi, local giants Mahindra and Tata Motors, and China’s BYD, intends to introduce EVs. This wave comes despite concerns about slow adoption and limited charging infrastructure.
Government’s quest for clean mobility
According to sources, Elon Musk’s Tesla is looking for retail outlets in India and may test the market with imported vehicles. The government’s quest for clean mobility, spurred by concerns about pollution and fuel import costs, has pushed EV adoption. Companies are also under pressure to achieve stricter pollution standards or face significant penalties. While petrol, diesel, hybrid, and CNG vehicles will continue to be introduced, EVs will take centre stage in 2025.
Much of the EV activity starts in mid-January at the Bharat Mobility Auto Show, where several new models will be shown. Among the highlights is Maruti Suzuki’s first pure Batte.

Mahindra, a long-time EV booster, will unveil some of its most sophisticated cars this year. Hyundai intends to reveal the Creta EV. Tata Motors, the current EV leader, will offer the Sierra SUV in both electric and ICE versions, as well as electric versions of the Harrier and maybe the Safari, all priced above ₹20 lakh.
High-end electric vehicles are likely to have a substantial impact. Mercedes will introduce the G580 Electric G, which features the stunning 360-degree “G-Turn Ballet,” making it one of India’s most powerful and coveted EVs.
JSW MG is also increasing its EV lineup with the Cyberster sports car and the Mifa MPV, which will be available at the new ‘Select’ concept stores.
BYD, which currently sells imported EVs in India, is likely to introduce two new models: the Denza N9 plug-in hybrid and the Bao 3 electric, in addition to its Seal electric car and Atto 3 SUV. Audi will expand its green lineup with the Q6 e-tron SUV and RS e-tron GT, while Skoda will debut the Enyaq.
On the petrol and hybrid front, notable arrivals include Kia’s Syros SUV, which is currently available in petrol and diesel versions, with an EV variant expected next year. Tata Motors is also anticipated to launch petrol versions of the Safari and Harrier, while Nissan may introduce its well-known Patrol SUV to India.
